Agile Optimize Disposition Costs and Reduce Cost of Product Changes in your PLM
Satya Ravada, Project Manager, Sierra Atlantic Inc
Govinda Krishnan
The race to stay ahead in today's highly competitive manufacturing environment has led to an unprecedented rate of evolution of products. A product's lifecycle is marked by lot of design changes geared towards an improvement in performance and cost efficiency. A subjective cut-in of such changes, however, can lead to a supply chain nightmare in the form of excess and obsolete inventory that dilutes, sometimes significantly, any benefits reaped from the design improvement.

Decision Makers and Executives are usually too busy to review detailed data. Creating dashboards that contain metrics, KPIs (key performance indicators) and charts has become an easy and quick way to provide information on a single screen. Using an inexpensive out of the box product (InfoCaptor), we were able to capture key information needed to assist in the Financials Month-End Close Process. The Dashboard identified open periods from every subledger and provides drill down capability of open and pending transactions from every subledger.

A well-structured ERP system can support not only better response time and cost savings in the supply chain operations. Simultaneously an efficient intercompany structure can directly add significant savings to the bottom line. Based on actual user implementations with a principal entity in Singapore, factories and selling entities in Korea, Japan and other countries we will show considerations for such intercompany structures Asia, compare the multi-org options within Oracle Apps and discuss lesson learnt.

Financials  Automating Project Operations for Embedded PSOs
Neeraj Garg, VP, Products, Project Partners, LLC
Professional Services Organizations that are a smaller part of a product company are typically referred to as Embedded PSOs. An example of such organizations is a services organization that provides installation and implementation services for networking equipment maker. Operating such organizations pose a greater challenge than regular PSOs as they need to synchronize their operations with the main business of the company which is to deliver products. Product sales typically bundle services with products or give away services with product sales. The challenge in these cases is how to segregate revenue for services in order to meet VSOE requirements. Additional challenges such as dealing with logistics for services delivery, as services can only start once product has already arrived at client sites and hence product shipments need to be coordinated with services delivery. This presentation provides a view of such challenges faced by Embedded PSOs and suggests different approaches to using Oracle Applications such as Oracle Projects to resolving these issues.

Jeff Morton, Elearning Incorporated
Current e-learning recording tools, such as Captivate or UPK require the courseware developer to re-record from the client's instance in order to produce learner-friendly, client-specific materials. The presenters will demonstrate the ELI Accelerator, a new tool that allows customized materials to be developed in minutes. The presentation will show a complete lesson from an EBS e-learning course that includes process documentation, and then show how the data in the recordings are instantaneously updated to produce a lesson that has been customized with the client's own data, without re-recording. Learning may begin and users may execute practise sessions with client data even before a client instance has been implemented. As the solution evolves the e-learning classes can be updated overnight to reflect the changes.

General   Project Management Using Spreadsheets and Oracle
Peter Budelov, AVP, Product Management, Project Partners, LLC
Project-oriented organizations rely on project managers to manage work on a project, as well as manage project finances, progress reporting and to monitor the overall health of the project. Typically this transactional and performance reporting interaction is done via HTML web pages to a robust enterprise system. However, since project managers spend most of their time managing project work, and are therefore, only part-time users of enterprise applications, often they find the UI foreign and difficult to use. Additionally, many project managers spend much of their time travelling, and therefore, have considerable quantities of down-time that could be used for project analysis and management, but are unable to effectively do so since they are not networked to their enterprise environment. The challenge is to provide a concise, yet robust means of interfacing with the enterprise application that can also be taken offline when necessary to work in a disconnected mode. This presentation looks at solutions to this problem by using desktop-based spreadsheets to provide a UI tailored to a specific group of end-users (project managers) thereby delivering a UI focused to the users' need for transactional as well as reporting requirements - and functions in both online and offline modes.

Rather than start over with each implementation, with new teams, potentially new consultants, and other factors, taking time out to define standards, an archiving strategy, and standardizing some training components helps smooth the implementation. Using a standard project management approach, which included prototyping, and figuring out the organizational attributes, makes each successive roll out easier and more productive.
